Coos Bay, OR – The Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board (SOWIB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Stephens as the agency’s Executive Director, following a vote by the Board of Directors at its May 22 meeting.
Sara has served as SOWIB’s Interim Executive Director since May 2024, during which time she has guided the organization through a period of strategic growth, strengthened partnerships with regional employers and educators, and advanced key workforce development initiatives across Coos, Curry, and Douglas counties.
“Sara has been a leader for SOWIB over the past year,” said Joe Benetti, Chair of the SOWIB Board of Directors. “She has brought stability, vision, and a collaborative spirit to the organization. The Board has full confidence in her ability to lead SOWIB into its next chapter of service and innovation for Southwestern Oregon’s workforce.”
Under Sara’s interim leadership, SOWIB has launched several new programs aimed at upskilling local workers, supporting youth employment pathways, and responding to the changing needs of the regional labor market. Her background, combined with her passion for community engagement, has made her a key asset in driving inclusive economic growth.
“I’m honored to continue serving the communities of Southwestern Oregon in this role,” said Sara. “I’m proud of what our team has accomplished together over the past year and excited to build on that momentum. SOWIB will continue to work closely with our partners to create opportunities that empower individuals and strengthen our local economy.”
Sara Stephens’ appointment is effective immediately.
