The June 2025 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is attached and available at this QualityInfo.org link.

Over the year, Douglas County total nonfarm employment declined by 390 jobs. Jobs were added in government and private health services but declines in other industries including leisure, manufacturing, and retail were larger. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.7%, about 0.5 percentage points higher than the year before.

For the special topic this month, I looked at population structure by age in Douglas County. Demographics isn’t destiny, but the age of the local population has an impact on who participates in the labor force and what services are in demand.

Douglas County’s population pyramid is more top heavy than the state, which is more spherical in distribution. The 60-74 population makes up the top three 5-year age cohorts in Douglas, whereas in Oregon the groups aged 30-44 make up the largest part of the population. Both of the above segments are larger cohorts of the U.S. population, representing the Baby Boomer and Millennial generations.

This month’s articles included:

As always, the Indicators contain all the latest economic data on our area. If you have a data question or want to learn more about any of these topics, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
