The October 2025 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is available at this QualityInfo.org link.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) suspended the monthly employment and unemployment reports for the nation, states, and metropolitan areas as of Oct. 1, 2025. Oregon’s monthly jobs and unemployment rate for September are unavailable at this time, so we don’t have the typical data on changes in employment by industry to highlight in this month’s indicators.

Instead, we’ll highlight other recent data releases. We recently released geocoded employment data for areas below the county level. Oregon is the only state that I’m aware of that has access to geocoded employment data, so it’s a treasure trove of valuable information.

You may suspect that different parts of Douglas County have different industry structures, wage rates, and employment bases, and you’d be right. Health care and social assistance is the largest private industry in the county and several of the cities and towns, but a number of places, including rural Douglas county, have different largest industries such as manufacturing or hospitality.

This data is based on what Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) a physical worksite is in, not a worker’s home address. Someone that works in Roseburg may live in Drain, or vice versa, and may not commute in physically at all depending on the job.

Other data to highlight this month includes new data from our Quarterly Job Vacancy Survey, a look at federal jobs in Oregon, recent online hiring demand, and business news in our area.

This month’s articles included:

If you have a data question or want to learn more about any of these topics, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
