South Coast Economy
Total nonfarm employment decreased by 190 jobs over the year in Coos County to 23,170. The private education and health services sector experienced the greatest employment gains with 70 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities experienced the greatest employment losses with 110 jobs.
Total nonfarm employment increased by 10 jobs over the year in Curry County to 6,670. The government sector experienced the greatest employment gains with 20 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities experienced the greatest employment losses with 40 jobs.
Special Topic: Population History & Forecasts

Coos County's population in 1990 was 60,273. Thirty years later it had grown to 65,280, an increase of 3.5%. The county's population is projected to level off over the next five years, then decrease starting in 2030 through 2060 by 835 residents (-1.3%). Starting in 2060 this decline is expected to reverse, adding another 2,540 residents (3.9%) by 2070.

Curry County's population in 1990 was 19,327. Thirty years later it had grown to 23,512, an increase of 21.7%. The county's population is projected to increase slowly through 2070 adding roughly 500 residents each decade. By 2070 it's expected that 25,968 people will live in Curry County adding 2,456 (10.4%) from 2020 to 2070.
