The September 2025 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is below and available at this QualityInfo.org link.
Douglas County total nonfarm employment increased by 90 over the year to August. Health care growth continued to make up the lion’s share of jobs added, as it has in the state. Employment in manufacturing, retail, and several other sectors declined.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment was 6.1%. Just like in most regions of the state and nation, that represents an increase over mid-2023 but remains relatively low in historical terms.
For the special topic this month, I looked at leisure and hospitality jobs over the past 25 years in the state and county. Leisure and hospitality employment has increased significantly since 2001, and has been a bright spot of over-the-year growth at the state level (at the county level there was a slight decline).

The story is a mixed bag. Douglas’s job growth in the sector has lagged the state, and during recessions has dipped below 2001 levels. However, the post-2020 rebound was strong, and our area has more hospitality jobs than it did before 2020, unlike the state.
