Hello Economic Indicators readers,
Attached are this month’s South Coast indicators with 2025 Job Vacancy survey data in place of Local Area Unemployment and Current Employment statistics. Oregon’s local monthly employment reports will resume in April after delays following last fall’s extended federal government shutdown. In the meantime, I’ll be highlighting other recent data releases from our programs. Find the updated schedule of future releases here:
South Coast Job Vacancies
The number of vacancies rose in 2025 after declining the prior three years.
69% of vacancies were open for 60 days or more
54% of these vacancies were difficult to fill
Health care and social assistance represented 29% of all vacancies with 999. Construction had 385 (11%) and leisure and hospitality had 406 (11%). Wholesale trade had the least with 59 (2%).
Special Topic: Industry Employment Change, 2020-2025

How has the industry employment mix changed in the five year period following the COVID pandemic? Coos County added 1,140 jobs to nonfarm payrolls (5%) with 580 originating in the private sector and 560 in the public sector.
Leisure and hospitality drove gains, adding 670 jobs or an increase of 27%. Professional and business services lost 190 jobs or 8%. In the public sector both federal (10) and local government (540) employers added jobs. Notably Indian tribal employment increased by 310 jobs, or 46%.

Curry County added 250 jobs to nonfarm payrolls (4%) with 190 originating in the private sector and 60 in the public sector.
Leisure and hospitality drove gains, adding 110 jobs or an increase of 10%. Mining, logging, and construction lost 80 jobs or 15%. In the public sector federal (10), state (50), and local government (20) employers added jobs.
