South Coast Economy
Total nonfarm employment declined by 430 jobs over the year in Coos County to 22,660. The other services sector experienced the greatest employment gains with 30 jobs. Professional and business services experienced the greatest employment losses with 150 jobs.
Total nonfarm employment grew by 140 jobs over the year in Curry County to 6,720. The private education and health services sector experienced the greatest employment gains with 70 jobs. Leisure and hospitality experienced the greatest employment losses with 30 jobs.

Location quotients measure employment concentration in a local area compared to that of a broader base area. This graph analyzes the location quotient of the government sector in Coos County with Oregon as the base area. Historically this sector’s location quotient has been the highest in Coos County relative to the other nine sectors. In 2024 the LQ was 1.59, meaning there were over 1.5 times as many employees in this sector compared to what we saw at the state level.

The leisure and hospitality sector’s location quotient has been the highest in Curry County relative to the other nine sectors. In 2024 the LQ was 1.78, meaning there were nearly twice as many employees in this sector compared to what we saw at the state level.
