The August 2025 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is attached and available at this QualityInfo.org link.
Douglas County total nonfarm employment increased by 260 over the year to July. Growth in professional services, financial activities and health services was tempered by small losses in most other industries. Unemployment was a seasonally adjusted 5.9% in July which is 0.6 percentage points higher than this time last year.
Home prices have all sorts of labor market implications – from being many households’ main source of equity, to the affordability of rent for new residents or young families, the cost of local housing has a big effect on which type of workers live where.

Using Zillow data, I tracked the home value index in Douglas County relative to the typical home in the U.S. While these numbers aren’t adjusted for inflation, it’s useful to note the relationship between national prices and our local market. Typically they track pretty closely, though during 2020-2022, Douglas County home values appreciated even faster than the substantial increase in the U.S. Housing value growth has been slow in the last several years, in the U.S. and Douglas County.
