Douglas County Economic Indicators - January 2024
The January 2024 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is also available on Quality Info.
This month’s data release marks the last of 2023, a good occasion to look back on the last year of job changes in Douglas. Growth was quite slow but positive in 2023, as business in industries such as health care and financial activities added jobs, and professional services and manufacturing lost jobs. Douglas has recovered nearly all the jobs lost in 2020 on a seasonally adjusted basis. Very low unemployment – 4.5% in December – has made finding workers difficult, which is likely a contributing factor to slower job growth.
The special graph this month looks forward instead, to ten of the occupations that are expected to grow quickly from 2022-2032.
Many health care careers are projected to be among the fastest-growing occupations in the next decade, with some tech and recreation careers represented as well. Training requirements vary, but 7 of the 10 on this list typically require a bachelor’s or more. In the broader list on our projections page, you’ll find fast-growth roles available at a variety of training and education levels.
