The May 2025 edition of the Douglas County Economic Indicators is attached and available at this QualityInfo.org link.
Over the year, Douglas County employment declined by 480. Jobs were added in government and private health services, with declines in manufacturing, retail trade, and several other sectors. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.6%, which is slightly higher than the same time in 2024.
While most workforce data concerns employers and wage earners, a key part of the economy is made up of “nonemployers”, including sole proprietors and other business structures such as partnerships and S-Corps. For the special graph this month, I looked at the most recent data on number and revenue of nonemployer establishments from the Census Bureau, covering 2023.

There were 6,250 nonemployers in Douglas in 2023, with the greatest number in services, real estate and construction. Typically, Douglas County nonemployers had lower average revenue than nonemployers in the U.S. The exceptions were in other services, natural resources, and transportation and warehousing which had higher average revenue than in the U.S.
