South Coast Economy

The government sector saw the greatest employment gains over the year in Coos County with 180 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities experienced the greatest employment losses with 160 jobs. In Curry County the government sector added 60 jobs over the year while seeing employment losses of 130 jobs in the trade, transportation, and utilities industry.

Special Topic: Private Firm Size Distribution


The special topic this month examines private firm size distribution. As of 2020 firms with fewer than five employees made up 69.6% of all firms in Coos County and employed 1,530 individuals. For Curry County firms with fewer than five employees comprised 75.1% of all firms and employed 666 individuals.
